Purpose Driven Idiot
November 16, 2006 by John Rich
Rick Warren, who is an immensely popular pastor at a megachurch, lay down with some dogs and came up with fleas. Big surprise. Some background from World Net Daily:
Megachurch Pastor Rich Warren is adamantly denying he praised Syria on his recent trip, which he describes as a favor to his Muslim next-door neighbor.
Warren, author of the best-selling “The Purpose-Driven Life,” visited Syria this week and was quoted by official Syrian news agencies as saying the U.S. should have been holding dialogues with Damascus, that Syrian Muslims and Christians co-exist peacefully and the Syrian leadership is responsible for the nation’s tolerance and stability.
Warren is one of those treacly Christian pietists that are just so hard to take seriously; their theology appears to be that Jesus is your personal butler, just waiting for you to call to him and help you select which suit to wear today.
Of course, I could have that wrong; who, after all, am I to judge? But Warren certainly does come across as a bit of a fool for having gone to Syria in the first place. According to WND, he denies ever having said such nice things about one of the sources of world terror. But then he also apologized in a non-apologetic manner:
Warren made no apologies for putting himself in a position to be used by the police state. But he did say: “I also know that anyone who speaks publicly all the time, is bound to say something dumb every now and then. So I ask for your patience and forgiveness in advance because I’m sure it will happen! Every day I’m amazed that God uses someone as flawed as I am. You should be too. Just don’t believe everything you read by bloggers or hear in the media.”
I’m also amazed that God, who Warren seems to think has him on that great holy rolodex in the sky and who calls Rick personally from time to time, would give a fuzzy white rat’s sphincter about this worm who travels to visit one of the great enablers of Islamic terrorism.
Yes, yes, I know. God truly loves all of his critters, great, and small. Even fools such as Rick Warren. I just wish He Who Is would tell Rick Warren to stay home, shut the hell up, and stop embarrassing us.
And by “us” I don’t mean just Christians. Although they should especially be ashamed of him.
