Bill Clinton’s tantrum tour
January 22, 2008 by John Rich
Great turn of phrase from Rich Lowry at NRO. The Hill-and-Bill campaign has ramped it up a notch. Now that John Big Hair Edwards no longer seems to be a factor, and the dwarves such as Bill Richardson and Dennis UFO Kucinich have exited stage left, the target is Obama. And it seems to be working.
Obama, as in Obama of Oprah endorsement fame, who is famous for saying nothing at all. But saying it in a pleasant, “I’m ok, you’re ok” way that offended no one. No one who did not think that a president ought to stand for something, that is. This magical mystery tour went on up until New Hampshire and Nevada, when Obama realized that he had lost a few pints of blood to the Clinton war machine. And now, what Rich Lowry calls the Clinton tantrum tour:
Besides, Clinton has no incentive to stop his New Hampshire-to-Nevada-to-South Carolina tantrum tour because it appears to be working. Strategically, there might not be much more the Clinton campaign can do to sell Hillary, but it certainly can tear down Obama. The Illinois senator has pledged to fight back against Bill, probably exactly what the Clinton campaign wants: It’s hard to be hopeful at the same time you’re in a war of words with an ex-president who is willing to use any cheap and dishonest argument at hand.
Bill Clinton is a charming rogue, and for the time being, I wish him all success in tearing Obama a new orifice. I can only hope that it will lead to Hillary’s gaining the nomination. Why? Because they’ll be easier to beat in November. The general electorate is not going to be quite so enamored with the thought of a Hill-Billy White House, and a solid candidate from our side should beat them.
I write “them” because it is clear that the Clinton war machine is a joint operation. After all, if Hillary was “co-president” for eight years, then turnabout is fair play, isn’t it? Ready for another triangulating lying Clinton? I don’t think so.
In the spirit of bipartisanship, let’s all take the pledge: Enough with the Bushes and the Clintons. In this, the gas merchants who tell us all that we need change, are right.
