Energy independence?

The United States has one proven energy resource that is the equal of oil: coal. Equal, that is, to all of the oil reserves of OPEC. That’s great, right? Right? Wrong. Not if you are Barack Hussein Obama and his wingnut running mate, Joe Gaffaliscious Biden.

Obama and company have pledged to gain us energy independence. The time frame varies, but the emphasis is on vague promises of a “Manhattan Project,” Big Government program to produce energy from as-yet unproven sources.

Not that solar, wind, geothermal, cow farts, what all don’t yield energy. Just that getting a sufficient amount of power to market any time in the next ten to thirty years is, well, windy cow farts. The only proven power source that could fill the gap? Yup. Bad-ass nuclear power, which liberal Democrats have demonized for decades.

That’s the essence of the Obamarama charade: they’re in favor of all sorts of things…except those that require actual construction. Even Teddy Kennedy, leading lefty, won’t let them put up windmills that might spoil his view. Poor baby; it’s sooo hard living up their in the Kennedy compound…

The point is that Obama and company are for things in general. When specifics raise their ugly head, they are immediately shot down. Case in point: clean coal. For the Luddites Obama and Biden, it should be labeled “No Coal.”

From the One Who Will Stop the Ocean’s Rise (via NRO Campaign Spot):

I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.

So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.

Got that Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia? Too bad about one of your principal industries. Think that Obama was, somehow, speaking out of turn? Here’s what the old white guy on the ticket, Biden has to say:

“No coal plants here in America,” he said. “Build them, if they’re going to build them, over there. Make them clean… We’re not supporting clean coal.”

At least Joe was telling the truth. Obama lies.
