You might be forgiven for thinking that Eric Holder is the attorney general of a minor European nation, perhaps Belgium or Luxembourg. After all, someone in such a position would, of necessity, be obliged to cooperate with other minor European nations in matters relating to the prosecution of his citizens.
In what may be a harbinger of the loss of American sovereignty, Eric Holder, the AG of the United States of America, is entertaining the notion of helping an obviously left-deranged Spanish magistrate in the prosecution of Bush administration officials. From the AP:
In speaking to reporters Wednesday, [Attorney General Eric] Holder also said it is possible the United States could cooperate with a foreign court’s investigation of Bush administration officials.
Holder spoke before the announcement that a Spanish magistrate had opened an investigation of Bush officials on harsh interrogation methods. Holder didn’t rule out cooperating in such a probe.
“Obviously, we would look at any request that would come from a court in any country and see how and whether we should comply with it,” Holder said.
“This is an administration that is determined to conduct itself by the rule of law and to the extent that we receive lawful requests from an appropriately created court, we would obviously respond to it,” he said.
Love that “rule of law.” Doesn’t matter whose law; could be Nazi Germany; could be communist Cuba. Think this fanciful? How about when Eric Holder was the point man on the terror tactics used to return Elian Gonzalez to Cuba? This is the leftist ideologue who is now King Barack the Marvelous’ AG.
Laws? Y’all come; Spain, Syria, Saudi Arabia, who are we to judge whose laws are better?
Cooperation with a would-be Torquemada from Spain has nothing to do with the “rule of law.” It has to do with scoring political points with our own lefties, who are out for the blood of any Bush administration official, from Dubya on down, who was in office before the advent of the new messiah Barry.
What Holder and the other fools don’t quite realize is that this is a door that, once opened, can’t easily be closed. Spain today doesn’t like the fact that we took out Iraq’s garbage. Perhaps another Spanish fascist like Franco (still dead, so far as we know) takes over and decides that Obama’s takeover of the banks and auto industries is a crime against nature? And issues torture orders, with which the Spanish would be quite comfortable (Inquisition II, here we come…).
The point? The “rule of law” means our law, not Spain’s. Or Saudi Arabia’s. Or Russia’s. Or any other nation whose judges and leaders are not accountable to U.S. citizens.
