One does not go to a crack cocaine dealer or meth cooker to get tips on healthy living. Likewise, one should never, ever, ever accept insights about Republicans from the far-left Dan Balz, who never met a hopey-changey candidate he did not love. Balz, along with his pals at MoveOn and the like continues to use the Left’s favorite bogeyman, Dick Darth Vader Cheney.
With absolutely no credibility, he headlines “As Cheney Seizes Spotlight, Many Republicans Wince.” Yes. Many. None that are quoted for attribution, of course. One guesses that the reach of the Dark Lord Cheney remain great, and he can strangle his enemies with a mere glance.
Balz’ evidence? Here it is:
That is why his [Cheney’s] high-profile defense of controversial Bush administration policies has caused queasiness among Republican political strategists. But Cheney remains powerful enough that most of his GOP critics are not willing to take him on in public. “The fact that most people want to talk [without attribution] shows what a problem it continues to be,” said one Republican strategist who spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to be candid. “Cheney continues to be a force among many members of our base, and while he is entirely unhelpful, no one has the standing to show him the door.”
Got that: “one Republican strategist who spoke on the condition of anonymity…” Unlike this “one Republican strategist” who doesn’t stand up for what he claims to believe, Dick Cheney does. This is all quite shocking to some:: the former Vice President defends his administration’s policies. What was the man thinking?
As an actual Republican, I find Dick Cheney’s stands refreshing. While I happen to agree with him, I’d find it refreshing regardless. Here’s a man who knows he is anathema to the liberals, who has no political future, and yet he speaks his mind.
More importantly, he has been consistent. He does not flip-flop like The Great One. Oh, right, when The Great One does it, it’s called “pragmatic.” I call it lack of a spine, something Dick Cheney can never be accused of.
Standing up for what you believe, and in this instance, believing that the country is headed into dangerous seas unless it changes course, is the highest form of patriotism. Dick Cheney will always stand up and be counted. Which is something that liberal scribes like Dan Balz don’t seem to get.
