Obama has something of a tin ear when it comes to his presidency. Latest example? His plan to have all students listen to his pretty words on September 8. Via Yahoo news:
On September 8, in what the Department of Education is touting as a “historic” speech, President Obama will be talking directly to students across the U.S., live on the White House website. But some parents and conservatives are blasting the president, calling the speech an excuse to brainwash American children.
That last might be thought a tad over the top, except for the fact that the White House is fishing for some young love. Also from Yahoo:
The [administration-supplied lesson] plan for grades 7-12 includes a “guided discussion,” with suggested topics: “What resonated with you from President Obama’s speech? What is President Obama inspiring you to do?”
Gaah. That’s Big Brother territory. Children should not be subject to this kind of indoctrination.
I’d have the same reaction if George Bush did it. Or any president. The fundamental point is that the president should not attempt to “inspire” young children. Nazi youth comes to mind, but this is likely also over the top. The real problem is that this president believes that he is the state, and that every single facet of our lives is under his immediate dominion.
Well, Barack, that’s not the way it is here in America. What country are you living in?
