This is political correctness to the max. The offense? A compilation of three documents vital to our liberty. Including the right to be politically correct morons, I suppose.
So, what could possibly be bad about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Articles of Confederation? Nothing contained in those mighty documents, I assure you.
However, the publisher, Wilder, whose books I will never knowingly buy, put this disclaimer on the title page:
This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today. Parents might wish to discuss with their children how views on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and interpersonal relations have changed since this book was written before allowing them to read this classic work.
Now, I assume that the Constitution includes those amendments that abolished slavery, gave women the vote, and other “values” that are not “a product of its time,” that time being the late 18th century.
The Constitution and our Declaration have stood the test of time. We don’t need moral pygmies who fear liberty placing feckless disclaimers in front of the greatest political documents ever written.
