“nothing short of an abomination”

If Bill Clinton was our first black president, then Barry Obama is our first Muslim president. How else to explain this unforced error of Obama’s vocal support for the construction of a mosque within bomb fragment’s distance of the World Trade Center?

2,819 innocents died in Lower Manhattan on 9/11 at the hands of Muslims who acted in the name of Islam. From New York magazine, the basic numbers:

  • Total number killed in attacks (official figure as of 9/5/02): 2,819
  • Number of firefighters and paramedics killed: 343
  • Number of NYPD officers: 23
  • Number of Port Authority police officers: 37

Jennifer Rubin quotes one of my favorite New Yorkers, Representative Peter King on Obama’s canard that poking us Americans in the eye with a mosque short blocks from Ground Zero is anything other than a provocation and and act of war:

President Obama is wrong. It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero. While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much. The right and moral thing for President Obama to have done was to urge Muslim leaders to respect the families of those who died and move their mosque away from Ground Zero. Unfortunately the President caved in to political correctness.

Jennifer ends with a perfect summation of Obama’s pronouncement: nothing short of an abomination.
