Words to heed

There is likely no one alive in the West who knows more about the Middle East, Islam, and our relations with them, than Bernard Lewis. As reported by Jay Nordlinger at NRO, these words from Professor Lewis sum up what we ought to do and what we are not doing:

“At the moment, the general perception, in much of the Middle East, is that the United States is an unreliable friend and a harmless enemy. I think we want to give the exact opposite impression…That is the way to be perceived.”

I don’t think that the Obamites have it in them to actually live up to the Marine’s informal motto: No better friend; no worse enemy. Would that they at least tried.
