Lexington and Concord

I will give my Massachusetts brethren credit where it is due: the first actual shots fired in our struggle for independence from England began on the old North Bridge in Concord.

This fact is well known to those of us who learned that American history did not start with the New Deal. The Massachusetts Minute Men showed the steely resolve for liberty that lit the spark. Now, along comes Representative Michelle Bachmann with her claim that the “shot heard ’round the world” was fired in New Hampshire. Well, the taxes are much lower there today, but liberty was born in Boston and here in my state, Virginia. Not New Hampshire.

According to the left-leaning Politico, this was yet another mistake made by Bachmann. Since she is a rock-ribbed conservative, she must be stupid, don’t you see? Michele Bachmann is anything but stupid, but she needs to exercise much more care in speaking.

As for such gaffes ruling her out of the presidential sweepstakes, let’s hearken back to what that alleged Constitutional scholar, B.H. Obama has to say on the campaign trail in May of 2008 (as reported by Mahalo.com):

“Over the last fifteen months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states, I think — one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii I was not allowed to go to … my staff could not justify it.”

Despite this rather stupid statement, Obama was elected as our president. Well, at least he plays our president when he appears on tv…

The point being that Bachmann disappoints in making such easily prevented errors. This does not disqualify her, but does make it harder to support her. But then, Obama was elected, given a pass on his dumb statements. And Obama has been, at best, a mediocre president who has let the left wing of his party in Congress run him around by the nose.
