You might not know that we just entered a shooting war against Libya. You probably do know that we have troops in harm’s way in Afghanistan and Iraq. And you have probably heard that we had a looming debt crisis, attended by a presidential budget that does not even begin to deal with our deficit.
What better way to while away those hours away from the situation room in the White House than to pretend to be pro-business on a trip to South America.
Note, however, he avoids the difficult parts of that continent. For example, he is craftily avoiding Colombia, an actual ally, because Obama does not have the stones to stand up to his union handlers and promote Senate approval of the long-pending Columbia free trade agreement.
Perhaps the Brazilians could keep Obama around as a court jester.
