Well Done

Our men got the bastard. Shot him in the head, even as members of the coward’s retinue were hiding behind a woman. The good news? Our Navy Seal Team 6 did the job; yesterday was their “easy” day. Well done.

The bad news? Bin Laden was just one man; others will take his place. The worse news? The bastard was hiding in plain sight, in luxury, in the heart of Pakistan. Conclusion? Our enemies are Islamic states who give rise to (e.g. Saudi Arabia) or harbor terrorists (e.g. Pakistan). Next steps? Keep killing Islamic terrorists. Know who our enemies are; know that there’s no shortage of Muslims who would wish us dead or try to kill us.

As for our Dear Leader, he was quick to pat himself on the back for work that he and his leftist minions had been denouncing for years. As Stephen Hunter writes at Powerline,

Any joy one might feel in the intelligence of our analysts and the bravery of our door kickers was significantly diminished by Obama’s malignant narcissism. The first part of the announcement, evoking 9/11, was vulgarly overwritten as per Obama’s view of himself as some kind of gifted orator. The adjective bloated compote was unworthy of the subject, banal and self-indulgent.

Then there were his tasteless claims of personal leadership, his over-emphasis on “I” and “at my direction.” Clearly, all he did was sign off on initiatives other, better men had originated. He was ungenerous to Bush, who had to deal with this thing in real time under more pressure any president has faced since Pearl Harbor and wasn’t helped by the treachery of the democratic party, as exemplified by then Senator Obama. Clearly, we staged from Afghanistan. We were able to stage from Afghanistan because of Bush and the intel that led to the kill was just as obviously developed over years of effort, begun by Bush.

Will killing UBL help BHO gain reelection? Not unless the election was held in the next week or so. The voting public has a very short attention span. The economy next year, especially unemployment, inflation, and most particularly the price of gasoline, will determine if Obama wins.

Regardless of Obama’s narcissism, this was a victory for all Americans. I am grateful for, to paraphrase, rough men who stand ready to do violence on our behalf.
