The fix is in

Well, the Gang of Twelve is now set. As the Journal’s headline puts it, Minority Leader Pelosi “tapped three lawmakers known for protecting entitlement programs: Reps. Xavier Becerra (D., Calif.), Chris Van Hollen (D., Md.), and James Clyburn (D., S.C.).”

Known for “protecting entitlements.” Do tell. Also known for being hyper-partisan and as left as can be. Clyburn also suffers from the idiocy of claiming racism at the drop of a hat.

Van Holen, by the way, represents the uber-liberal Maryland 8th (suburbs of Washington, D.C.) and is Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee honcho. Well, at least they’ve got two approved minorities on the Democrat side.

These hyper partisans join Patty Murray and John Windsurfer Heinz-Kerry. There is zero chance any of these worthies will vote against raising taxes. Senator Baucus may reach across the aisle, but that’s a wan hope.

On the Republican side, we can only hope that Rep. Upton has recovered from some of his less than worthy positions (e.g. banning incandescent light bulbs). Hope, but I’m doubtful.

On this Gang of Twelve, I think we are doomed to gridlock at best. Which will likely mean automatic and heinous cuts to defense that the national security can ill afford.

For the tax-and-spend crowd, it’s a “heads I win, tails you lose” game. In other words, the fix is in, courtesy of our establishment politicians.
