The centerpiece is one Howard Gutman; read Rubin’s post for the goods on this moke. He appears to be a typical left-leaning self-hating Jew. I might chalk it up to the typical lefty Israel-Double-Standard-Time, i.e. expecting great things from a liberal democracy (Israel) while ignoring and excusing heinous behavior from the Arabs. But it’s worse than that.
Gurman, like so many on the left, just does not like Israel. They’re perhaps too Jewish, not apologetic ghetto Jews, too forceful, not liberal enough, not conservative, not all Reform Jews. Whatever. Gutman and others on the left are far too ready to blame Israel for the failure to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict. That the Arabs now in charge in Gaza officially want the destruction of the Jewish state somehow is hardly mentioned…
Why do people like Gutman blame Israel? Perhaps it is as written by Rubin:
But as most adults who have taken a history class or two know, the Arab nations repeatedly attacked and have refused to recognize Israel because it is a Jewish state. The European fixation on this tiny state (as opposed to, say, Sudan or Venezuela) is because it is a Jewish state. It is the obsession of the United Nations because it is a Jewish state. And the anti-Israel animus that has gushed from Arab lands traces its ideological heritage to the Third Reich.
That’s the long and the short of it: Israel-bashing isn’t always due to anti-Semitism, of course. Just most of the time. And Israel-bashing from Jews is, well, just kind of embarrassing for Jews. Or should be.
Hey, I’m a Baptist, and I’m embarrassed because Gutman is an American. Guess Gutman is among those who are not self-aware enough to recognize that they are being useful idiots for those who hate the Jewish people.
