According to Fox News, Obama got 72 percent of Hispanic votes, Romney 23. Fine, but this flies in the face of the allegedly conventional wisdom that Hispanics are natural entrepreneurs and are social conservatives.
The question of bringing non-Cuban Hispanics into the Republican fold sounds like it would be good for the Party’s electoral success. But I’ve got to ask, at what price to its soul?
Given that the Democrats are now all about redistribution of wealth and abortion, one would need to be blind to vote for Obama unless one agreed with these positions.
72 percent likely includes many who swallowed these things out of ethnic solidarity. Common sense, however, suggest that unless we think that Hispanics are ignorant of these things, this is where the non-Cuban Hispanic community is.
We Republicans need to welcome all who would join us. But not change who we are to simply gain votes.
