do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah, according to the great Jewish scholar Hillel. Jesus agreed, and in Matthew 22:35–40 reduced the Law to its essence with two commandments (Matthew 22):
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself
Seems pretty straightforward. Some, however, don’t seem to accept this universal call to treat all as they would wish themselves to be treated.
This brings me to Minnesota Not-Nice cutie, Ilhan Omar. She is an anti-Semite; she is arrogant, has a long history for such a young and inexperienced woman of anti-Semitism.
Latest example of this arrogance? She used her supposed position of power as a newly-elected Congresswoman to insult and harass Elliot Abrams, for the dual crimes of being Jewish and having served in President Reagan’s administration.
Enough
of this nonsense. As a Christian, I would say to Omar: get out of
my country. You don’t belong in our land, which values religious
liberty and freedom from bigotry.
My Savior Jesus Christ was a Jew. Our Lord’s original disciples were all Jews. And, lest we forget, Scripture tells us that salvation has come out of Zion.
One
of the greatest men of the 20th century (or any century, for that
matter), Pope John Paul II, put it thusly: Jews are our elder
brothers in the Faith.
Anyone
who is an anti-Semite is also an avowed enemy of Christians. Just in
case any wonder how hateful this Ilhan Omar is.
As for Democrats who tolerate this hate, they would do well to remember Martin Niemöller, a German pastor, who renounced his antisemitism in the light of its logical end point during the Third Reich. He is perhaps best remembered for these words:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
There must be no room for Omar’s kind of hate. I don’t care if the idiots in her district voted for her. She should be sanctioned and removed from Congress. She is not an American, except in the most technical of senses.
If
this seems extreme, how long do you suppose it would take for an
anti-black or anti-Muslim member of Congress to be cast out if they
made comparably ugly and bigoted remarks?
