“Pro-Palestinian-in-Chief”

Stanley Kurz has a lengthy piece up at NRO on the roots of Obama’s obvious antipathy towards Israel. The article delineates Obamas long and sympathetic relationship with “pro-Palestinian” networks. “Pro-Palestinian” being more forthrightly called “anti-Israel,” anti-Semitic, and anti-American. At least in the case of Obama and those unsavory types with whom he associated closely.

Fast forward to the present and the recent imbroglio over Israel’s “settlements” and the dictum from Obama that Israel start negotiating from its indefensible 1967 borders. Giving up, among other things, the Jewish Quarter and Western Wall in Jerusalem. On this, Obama is not just tone-deaf: he’s an active partner with the Palestinian Authority and thus, now, with Hamas. Way to go, BHO!

That said, it’s also the case that Obama’s pronouncements, which are many, usually have a short shelf life. Those that have a discernible theme, that is.

Virtually all of Obama’s statements on Israel seem to have been made for the sole purpose of furthering his popularity, or, among Jews, maintaining the strange obsession that they seem to have in voting against their own interests (“earn like Episcopalians; vote like Puerto Ricans”).

On Israel, we should look at what he and his minions have done, not just the words. On this, Obama is strangely fixated on Jewish “settlements” in Judea and Samaria. He has pressured for concessions that, if granted, will not bring peace, but will merely encourage another Arab attack on Israel.

Pressure on the Palestinians and other Arabs to recognize a Jewish state of Israel? Or to give up on the “right of return” which would destroy through demographics what could not be conquered militarily? Not happening.

Obama is also fixated on the “peace process,” and until quite recently bought into the fantasy that “if only there was a Palestinian state, the raison d’etre for Islamic terrorism would vanish.” In this he is no worse than George Bush (both 41 and 43) and our State Department since Hector was a pup.

Net assessment? Obama is anti-Israel. But some of his best flunkies are Jews…
